Bringing a puppy home to Fox Chapel
Fox Chapel has unusually specific dog rules, and they are worth knowing before you bring a puppy home. Under borough code, dogs are allowed in only four places. Riding Meadow Park and the north section of the Eliza Fox Trail allow dogs off leash from dawn to dusk. Lockhart Trail allows them off leash from dawn to 11am and from 4pm to dusk, with some sections leash-only. Hardie Valley Park requires a leash at all times, and there is a limit of two dogs per person.
Dogs are not allowed anywhere else in the borough parks, including Trillium Trail, the borough's oldest park. They are also not allowed on the trails at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, the Audubon Society's preserve in Fox Chapel.
Just over the line in Indiana Township, Allegheny County's Hartwood Acres has an off-leash dog area off the Red Loop, near Little Pine Creek. Off-leash time is for vaccinated dogs, so plan on leash walks for the first few weeks after your puppy comes home.
What Fox Chapel actually takes home
12 families from the 15238 ZIP, which includes Fox Chapel have bought a puppy here since the start of 2023, and between them they took home 11 different breeds. Almost every family chose a different breed, which is the honest reason we do not try to guess what you want before you walk in.
