Health & Care
The Value of a Petland Puppy
- All puppies come from licensed breeders who meet applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Breeder compliance documentation is reviewed as part of the selection process, and records are available upon request when applicable. Some puppies may be sourced from small, independent hobby breeders who operate under different licensing thresholds.
- All puppies are vet checked 2-3 times before they are shipped to the Petland store and examined again by a licensed, consulting veterinarian prior to sale. A record of the veterinarian’s findings, which includes a 21 point vet screen, is maintained for each puppy and if applicable, a state health certificate is available upon request.
- All puppies are current on all vaccinations, de-wormings and anti-parasite treatments up to their age, as prescribed by the consulting veterinarian. A current, comprehensive health record is provided to the customer at the time of purchase.
- Customers receive free lifetime, toll-free training and behavioral consultation from a staff of certified dog trainers at the American Kennel Club (AKC).
- Puppies are micro-chipped for lifetime identification in case they are lost or stolen, which also includes an AMBER ALERT feature to help search and recover your pet within a 50 mile radius of your home. Recent studies show the amber alert has increased the find rate from 10% up to 87%.
Pedigree & Protection
Every Puppy Goes Home Protected
Purebred puppies and popular designer hybrid puppies often come with a certificate of pedigree that shows up to four generations of family history.
Our trained pet counselors educate customers and help them choose a puppy that fits their family and lifestyle. They also provide hands-on guidance when selecting supplies and preparing to care for the puppy before it leaves the store, including a clear explanation of the puppy’s four basic needs.
Each puppy goes home with a two-part warranty. This includes a limited 10-day puppy purchase warranty covering the puppy’s health and a limited 3-year extended warranty for hereditary or congenital defects. The overall Petland puppy warranty meets and exceeds all requirements outlined in Pennsylvania Dog Law Section 9.3.
Every puppy also receives a 30-day medical plan for injury and illness sponsored by the American Kennel Club as part of the Enhanced Protection Package.
We document all of these details in a professional resource kit, along with additional materials tailored to the local market.

They learn about general pet care, including feeding, habitat needs, and routine wellness, so they can provide clear and accurate information. Using this knowledge, they help match customers with pets that align with their environment and preferences, and they offer guidance on the basic needs every pet requires at home.
